Travel Bag: Thrifted!

I needed a small pick me up yesterday.
I had been sitting in front of my computer blogging all morning
and needed to get out.
So I put on a salmon colored dress and went out.
As usual, I ended up at the Salvation Army on Crown Street
because in New Haven, there isn't much good shopping.
Yes, I'm saying Salvation Army is good shopping.
You get my drift.
While I was chatting away on the phone with my mother,
I saw this little beauty hiding behind a couch:

5 dollars! I was happy with it. It's pretty big and fits my old over the shoulder bag in it. Plus I'm moving in 13 days and I thought this would make a great plane bag. Man, I love thrifting.

Put It In A Box!

The other day I was at Michael's Craft Store,
you can see the goodies I got over here,
and I bought this cool, beige photograph box.
You know, boxes like this:

I bought as a way to contain my crafting tidbits,
because I'm slowly collecting more and more things!
So exciting!
Anyway, I got to thinking a little while after that
and I remember my mother have these really old hat boxes
under her bed when I was a child.
I don't exactly remember what she had in them,
probably old jewelry that I couldn't play with.
But I was thinking about how beautiful they are.
I mean, take a look at some images I found:

There's just something about them,
maybe it's their history or their shape or
how they smell old,
but I just love them!
I want to buy them, collect them like vases or tea towels.
Use them as decoration or legitimate storage.
Beautiful, right?

What do you think of old hat boxes or photograph boxes?

Monday Madness!: Music AND Thrifting?!

Okay so it's Monday and I have a lot to share!
Along with a Monday Music post, which I've been kind of
behind on lately *slaps own hand*
I want to share with you the cool things I bought
this weekend at a Goodwill Outlet store,
(yes, they make outlets where you dig through HUGE bins
and they make you pay based on weight...
It's awesome) and Michael's Craft store.
Love both places.

But first, here's a song that's been stuck in my head
since Jacob showed it to me.
Originally it was upsetting because he told me
that this was us a few weeks ago,
when we were just missing the boat together.
But then it started growing on me!
I just love his voice and the video is cute :)
What do you think?

Now here are the cool things I found!

$1.50 at the craft store. I love them!

$1.00 at the craft store. Love it!

$2.00 at Goodwill. Granted it's locked...but Jake said he'd help me open it.

Love the tag! These go for $35 on E Bay!

Searching for old books to make Paper Rose Wreaths, since they were so popular with my family...I think I know what Christmas presents are going to be!

Oh and on top of having this great song stuck in my head and finding all these cool things, Jake and I spent our Friday lunch at this great seafood spot right on the beach here in West Haven! SO GOOD!

Happy Monday!

Tuesday Inspiration: Parties!

All the sunshine and warm weather posts lately
has really gotten me in the mood for a party!

There's nothing I like more then to throw a party during
the warm spring and summer months.
It's the best excuse to get friends together, eat lovely food,
drink lovely drinks and be together.

Sadly, I don't think I shall be throwing a bash anytime soon,
given the fact that Jake and I don't know many people!
But a girl sure can dream, no?!
So I did a little research.
And gathered a few pictures.
And dreamed a little more.
A Picnic Party??

Invitations!
A must.

Lovely, come nightfall!

Antipasto Kabobs!

I am so excited for warm weather and making new friends!
I want to throw a garden party so badly!
(Fingers crossed we get a place with a yard in Kansas!)
I also want an excuse to wear this:

It's adorable, huh?

What're your favorite spring and summer party ideas?
Are you as excited about warm weather as I am??

Thrifty Friday!

I'm pretty sure that if I could spend everyday, or at least every OTHER day at a thrift store...I would.
I use to HATE going into thrift stores because the items weren't "new."
But I think it's just a young persons obsession with "new" things...
I spent my afternoon (a good three hours) at Goodwill and Savers (for those Best Coasters, Savers is a HUGE Goodwill. I could burn 6 hours there at LEAST).
While I was more successful at Goodwill,
I blame my lack of time and attention span to my short time at Savers.
There's just so much to look at that I can only go there in shifts.

This is what I found!

4 new wine glasses, a bottle for salad dressing and
a cast-iron muffin pan (super old) in the shape of DINOSAURS!

A green sweater (that I'm currently wearing),
a nude cardigan and a black jean dress (yes, I say
dress) and this RUSK bag, leather and super nice.

I love these earrings too.

I was so excited about all my finds, as usual, but I was the MOST excited about the muffin tin! It's super heavy and when Jake looked at the back, it said made in 1887 or something CRAZY like that.
While I still really enjoy shopping at my favorite stores, like Forever 21 and H&M for good deals, there's something about finding a treasure at a thrift store that makes it all worth while, ya know?

One item I HAD to pass up and was very sad about was this:

Isn't is wonderful?? I wanted it so badly. It was from England too! But it was $30 and I really have no use for it. Jake's really going to hate me as I get older...I'm going to fill our house with things that are pretty yet I don't really need!!

What are some of your favorite thrifty finds??
